We recognise that unforeseen situations may arise, making it difficult for you to attend your classes.
If your absence is 7 days or less:
You do not need to apply for an Authorised Absence if it is seven days or less.
If your absence is 8 days or more:
Please submit an Authorised Absence via the SEAtS mobile app.
To do this you can watch the video instructions or follow the steps below:
1. Click the ‘Requests’ section at the bottom of the app
2. Then click the Blue plus (+) icon
3. You will be directed to submit a new request, select ‘Absence’
4. Fill in the form, ensure you have selected your desired start date and start time before moving to end date and end time.
5. Attach your supporting evidence and press ‘Send’
NB: Please note that the maximum file size you can upload as evidence is 5MB. If your evidence file is larger try compressing the file or sending it as a ZIP file. If you continue to have issues, email the files separately to your Engagement Team and let us know via the comments box in your absence application.
Once an Authorised absence has been granted the attendance calendar will be updated and you will be recorded as having an Authorised absence. If you are unable to attend a class, for any reason and have not been granted an Authorised absence prior to your date of absence, you will be marked as absent.
You can expect to receive the outcome of your request within 7 calendar days.
As a City St George's student, you are responsible for catching up on missed learning when you cannot attend. If you know that you have missed content and need to catch up, you should contact your module leader for support.
Please note:
- Authorised Absences are only approved if you experience unforeseen circumstances such as; serious health issues, family emergencies, or jury duty.
- Authorised Absence process does not cover non-urgent events such as weddings or religious observances.
Sponsored students
The process for recording attendance is the same, but it is extra important to register your attendance if you’re a sponsored student on a student visa. UK Home Office policy means we are required to regularly check you are engaging with your studies.
If you do not meet the attendance and engagement requirements, your visa status could be at risk. Please ensure you are clear on the attendance requirements by referring to your programme handbook and checking the guidance for International students.
Declined absence requests
If your absence request has been declined, you can click into the comments on your request which will be updated with the reason, remember, all requests need to be over 8 days and have supporting evidence.
