Count Me In
Quickly and easily tap in for your classes using Count Me In to record your attendance. Here is how it works.
Merging legacy City and St George's resources
As we bring together resources for Clerkenwell & Moorgate (legacy City) and Tooting (legacy St George’s) students, some content may be specific to one campus and not the other. For the most relevant information, try using specific keywords or exploring content related to your department. If you need help, our support teams are available to guide you.
Clerkenwell & Moorgate students can use Support@City
Tooting students can contact studentlifecentre@sgul.ac.uk.

Count Me In (SEAtS)
Undergraduate students at Clerkenwell and Moorgate Campuses, and Law Postgraduate are required to record their attendance at all timetabled activities on campus using Count Me In (SEAtS).
Recording attendance helps us support you throughout your time at City St George’s, ensure you're engaging in your studies and developing to your full potential. We know that engaging well in your studies helps you succeed, while inconsistent attendance could have a negative impact on academic performance.
By using the SEAtS mobile app, we are able to improve the way attendance data is recorded and used and identify moments when you may need more support. If you miss classes, we can quickly reach out to you to check if everything is OK and direct you to the relevant teams that can help.
Download the SEAtS app
From September 2025, you are now able to view your timetable and keep track of your attendance all in one place with the SEAtS Mobile app.
Once you have completed your enrolment you are able to access the SEAtS app.
To download, search for “SEAtS Mobile” in the Apple App store or Google Playstore.
- Log in using your legacy City email (Firstname.Lastname@city.ac.uk) and password.
- The first time you log in, you’ll be asked to set up Multi-Factor Authentication. Please refer to our Multi-Factor Authentication set-up guide on ServiceNow for more information.
If you aren't able to log into the app, or receive an error message - please double check you are fully enrolled. Once you have completed enrolment, uninstall the app and restart your phone, finally reinstall SEAtS Mobile App and log in again.
Necessary settings
When using the app, you will need to apply the following three settings:
1. Wi-Fi - The app needs to be connected to Wi-Fi in order to accurately record and update your attendance. Across our campuses, we have free Wi-Fi available to all our current students via Eduroam.
2. Bluetooth and Location settings - The app checks you in through the use of Bluetooth and Location, so it is pivotal you allow the app access to this. When using the app for the first time, you will be prompted to grant the app access to your Bluetooth and Location. If these settings are not switched on when using the app, you will not be able to mark your attendance.
3. Notifications - Allowing notifications from the SEAtS app makes checking in easy (a simple click) and helps ensure you arrive to class on time. Within the app you can also amend when you receive the check-in reminder. We recommend you set this reminder for 15 minutes before class. You can do so by:
Open the app > Click "More" in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen > Click "Settings" > Choose "15 minutes before class" in the dropdown.
Using your Student ID card to register attendance
The readers are a small square digital box, fixed to the wall within most of our teaching and learning spaces. They look like either of the below:

To log your attendance, simply tap your student card onto the reader when you enter class. You'll hear a short beep or see a green tick on the screen to confirm that your attendance has been logged. You can also check your mobile app to make sure you have checked in correctly.
Please check that:
- You avoid card clash – take your ID card out of your wallet/card holder to ensure the right card is read.
- You are not using an old ID card to tap into the lectures.
- Count Me In card readers will produce a beep and a tick mark whenever any chip-containing card is tapped.
Find out how to use your card to register your attendance in class (1.30 minutes)
If you lose your card, details on how to obtain a replacement can be found on the ID cards page of the Student Hub.
You will need to obtain a new card as soon as possible to ensure you can check into your sessions.
If the card reader is not working, please report it to your Programme Tutor or Lecturer at the time of the timetabled session to ensure your attendance can be recorded manually. Please note this is done at your Lecturer’s discretion – also email your Engagement officer to confirm.
You can also report a card reader as faulty to the IT Service Desk directly on +44 (0)20 7040 8181, or online at IT Service Desk.
Using the SEAtS Mobile App to register your attendance
We are constantly looking to improve your student experience and the systems that support it.
In some rooms you can mark your attendance on our app. Posters in rooms clearly show if this is available.
Through the "SEAtS Mobile" app, recording your attendance is as quick as a tap – simply go to your timetabled room, check into the app to mark your attendance and you're all set to go!
Mark your attendance on the app in 5 easy steps:
- 15 minutes before the session is about to begin you’ll receive a notification on your phone
- When you arrive at the room, open and refresh your app by pulling down at the top of the screen and select the class you are attending to check into your session
- Wait for the app to connect to the room via Bluetooth, don’t close the app yet.
- You’ll receive a green tick confirmation in the app once you have successfully checking in.
Forgot to check in?
You are responsible for ensuring your attendance is recorded at each scheduled session. Lecturers are not obligated to amend attendance records, so there is no guarantee that a missed tap-in will be updated.
The most reliable way to ensure your attendance is recorded is to bring your ID card to every session and tap in on arrival, or to check in via the SEAtS mobile app (where available). Posters will be clearly displayed if your classroom supports SEAts mobile check-in.
If you do forget to tap in, attendance can only be recorded if your lecturer confirms with the Student Engagement team that you were present. Therefore, it is good practice to make yourself known to the lecturer at the end of the session so they are aware that you attended.
Applying for an Authorised Absence
We recognise that unforeseen situations may arise, making it difficult for you to attend your classes.
If your absence is 7 days or less:
You do not need to apply for an Authorised Absence if it is seven days or less.
If your absence is 8 days or more:
Please submit an Authorised Absence via the SEAtS mobile app.
To do this you can watch the video instructions or follow the steps below:
1. Click the ‘Requests’ section at the bottom of the app
2. Then click the Blue plus (+) icon
3. You will be directed to submit a new request, select ‘Absence’
4. Fill in the form, ensure you have selected your desired start date and start time before moving to end date and end time.
5. Attach your supporting evidence and press ‘Send’
NB: Please note that the maximum file size you can upload as evidence is 5MB. If your evidence file is larger try compressing the file or sending it as a ZIP file. If you continue to have issues, email the files separately to your Engagement Team and let us know via the comments box in your absence application.
Once an Authorised absence has been granted the attendance calendar will be updated and you will be recorded as having an Authorised absence. If you are unable to attend a class, for any reason and have not been granted an Authorised absence prior to your date of absence, you will be marked as absent.
You can expect to receive the outcome of your request within 7 calendar days.
As a City St George's student, you are responsible for catching up on missed learning when you cannot attend. If you know that you have missed content and need to catch up, you should contact your module leader for support.
Please note:
- Authorised Absences are only approved if you experience unforeseen circumstances such as; serious health issues, family emergencies, or jury duty.
- Authorised Absence process does not cover non-urgent events such as weddings or religious observances.
- If your circumstances prevent you from submitting any assignments, you should also complete an Extenuating Circumstances Request.
Sponsored students
The process for recording attendance is the same, but it is extra important to register your attendance if you’re a sponsored student on a student visa. UK Home Office policy means we are required to regularly check you are engaging with your studies.
If you do not meet the attendance and engagement requirements, your visa status could be at risk. Please ensure you are clear on the attendance requirements by referring to your programme handbook and checking the guidance for International students.
Declined absence requests
If your absence request has been declined, you can click into the comments on your request which will be updated with the reason, remember, all requests need to be over 8 days and have supporting evidence.
Class Check-in timeframes
You can check into your teaching session from 15 minutes before the scheduled start time until 15 minutes after and you’ll be marked as attended.
If you check in between 15 to 30 minutes of the activity you will be marked as late. After that you will automatically be marked as absent.
Any tap-ins before 15 minutes of the start of the lecture are not recorded in our attendance monitoring system.
If you have questions about what this means for your attendance or have concerns about tapping in early, please contact your School Office directly.
Low attendance
We will contact you if there are concerns about your attendance to check that you are OK and offer support. The steps we may take are set out in the Taught Student Engagement Policy.
Falsifying your attendance
Attending scheduled teaching is an essential part of your learning, which is why City St George’s keeps track of student attendance for course activities like lectures and seminars.
Falsifying attendance records can lead to disciplinary procedures laid out in Senate Regulation 13: Student Disciplinary. We would consider whether it may be academic misconduct if you gain an academic advantage (e.g. someone tapping in to gain marks for a module where attendance is one of the methods of assessment). These cases would be assessed via the Academic Integrity and Misconduct policy.
Students who are seen to be tapping into a lesson and leaving, will have their records manually amended and may be issued a warning, following which there could be disciplinary action taken against you for violating our policies.
If your student records are manually amended to reflect your absence, you could fall below your courses attendance threshold. For students who are on a sponsored student visa, it is also important to note that if there are continued concerns linked to your engagement and attendance, you risk losing your student visa. We encourage all students to attend and participate in their schedule activities to make the most of your time and learning while studying at City St George's.
SEAtS Mobile App Support
If in doubt, always try pulling down the screen of your app to refresh the page or by closing the app and restarting it again.
Timetabling
If your course information appears incorrectly on the mobile app, please contact your Course Officer. Please note, this issue does not affect your attendance recording.
If a class does not appear in your app, please check MyTimetable to see if the class is listed there. If the class appears in MyTimetable but not in the app - try refreshing the app to update your schedule. Please tap your ID card on a reader in the room.
If the class is missing from MyTimetable please let your School Engagement Officer know.
If the room listed in the app is different from the one you were told to attend, go to and tap in at the room you were instructed to attend.
If you’re having issues with your personalised timetable, or don’t think it is correct, please contact your Course Officer or Programme Office team.
App not updating or stuck on a screen
Always try pulling down the top of the screen to refresh your app, if this doesn't work please close and reopen the app.
If your attendance hasn't updated, please wait 24 hours before contacting your School Engagement Officer, this allows time for any system updates, especially if there was a last-minute room change.
If you get stuck trying to check into your session
Wait at least 30 seconds before selecting cancel check in and try connecting again. If this doesn't work close and reopen the app and try to check in again or try a different location in the room.
If the issue continues:
- Take a screenshot of the error and raise a ticket with IT at IT Service Desk.
- Notify your teacher that you attended the class.
Please note IT cannot update your attendance.
