Attendance and engagement
Find out how to record your attendance, why showing up matters and where to find support.
Merging legacy City and St George's resources
As we bring together resources for Clerkenwell & Moorgate (legacy City) and Tooting (legacy St George’s) students, some content may be specific to one campus and not the other. For the most relevant information, try using specific keywords or exploring content related to your department. If you need help, our support teams are available to guide you.
Clerkenwell & Moorgate students can use Support@City
Tooting students can contact studentlifecentre@sgul.ac.uk.
Attendance - what you need to know
As a student at City St George’s, you are expected to attend all of your scheduled classes and record your attendance.
Showing up regularly is essential for your academic progress, being an active member of the university community and developing the skills you need for your future career.
Your attendance matters. Students who show up regularly are more likely to achieve better results and graduate with a top degree classification.
The Student Charter sets the expectation that you take an active role in your learning and progress. This means fully engaging with your teaching opportunities, connecting with your peers and tutors, and reaching out early if you need support.
City St George’s is committed to helping you succeed, during your studies and in your future aspirations. Our support services are here to help you, both personally and academically.

- “Every class is like adding another puzzle piece to the bigger picture of my understanding.”
- “I’m grateful for the opportunity and I want to make the most of it."

We also monitor attendance so that we can best support you in your studies. If we notice any concerns with your attendance, we will get in touch to check that you are okay and to offer help if needed. The steps we may take are explained in the Student Taught Engagement Policy.
Fully engaging with your teaching and learning opportunities gives you the best chance to succeed and reach your full potential.
How to record your attendance
School specific guidance
You will be provided with a Programme Handbook by your School. This will provide you with details of programme-specific attendance requirements as well as the support available to you and key contacts. Attendance for postgraduate students is monitored differently depending on the programme. Please check your programme handbooks/course guidelines for details. As a City St George's student, you are responsible for catching up on missed learning when you cannot attend. If you know that you have missed content and need to catch up, you should contact your module leader for support.
