All City St George's, University of London students need a user account to access Moodle, email, and Clerkenwell & Moorgate campus computers.

Set up your account

I don't have access to everything I need.

Full system access will not be granted until arrangements for tuition fee payments has been confirmed.

Password

A password is a form of secret authentication data that is used to control access to a resource. The password is kept secret from those not allowed access, and those wishing to gain access are tested on whether or not they know the password and are granted or denied access accordingly.

For further information please see ourPassword Change guidance and Strong Passwords Creation Guideline.

Once these stages are complete you will have successfully set up your City St George's, University of London IT account.

If you need to change or reset the password for your account, follow the steps listed out in the respective pages :

Account Expiry

Graduating Students

Your City St George's account is deactivated once you complete your course (this includes access to your City email, Moodle and the Library services). You will be given notice of this change by email and you will have 180 days to export any files and data before your account is closed and deleted.

There is no account recovery following deletion, and the 180 day closure period cannot be extended. Once erased there is no data to retrieve.

If you are a former City Bayes student (Moogate Campus), your email account currently remains active, however decommissioning alumni email accounts is under review.

To continue using your email account, you are required to be compliant with City St George's IT policies. This includes the password policy, which requires you to update your password every 12 months to stop your account from being deactivated and deleted. It is recommended that you check your email once a month to catch notification messages about password expiry.

When your password is 11 months old notification emails are sent advising you to change your password. Multiple notifications are sent before the password expires.

You can update and change your password online.

If your password has expired, you will be prompted to change your password when you log on to Office 365 via your browser. However, if you do not change your password within 3 months of the password expiring your account will be disabled. If your account is disabled, please contact the IT Service desk.

If you do not contact the IT Service desk within 3 months of your account being disabled, your account will then be deleted. There is no account recovery following deletion and once erased there is no data to retrieve.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

This extra security verification occurs when signing in using your IT account details. It consists of a combination of your username, password, and a mobile device or phone.

Two-factor verification is more secure than just a password because it relies on two forms of authentication:

  • Something you know, like your password.
  • Something you have, like a phone or other device that you carry.

Two-factor verification can help stop malicious hackers from pretending to be you. Even if they have your password, the odds are that they don't have your device too.

What if I need help with MFA?

What if I cannot access my mobile device?

If you have lost your phone or do not have access to your old phone number, call the IT Service Desk on 020 7040 8181. The team will be able to disable MFA on your account for a short period of time so that you can re-register with a new phone number. You should then open a browser and go to aka.ms/mfasetup to re-configure your MFA options.

We recommend users add multiple verification methods to their account via aka.ms/mfasetup, such as both the Authentication Mobile App and the SMS text option. This helps users avoid issues with changing mobile numbers.

What if I need to speak to someone?

You can phone the IT Service Desk and use the MFA support service provided by IT: 020 7040 8181
