There are many ways to get involved! From walking around our campuses or using the gym to partaking in our social sports Get Active programme or representing City St George’s in competitive matches against other universities, there is an activity to suit every need, interest, and ability level!

Welcome to sport and physical activity at City St George's
We appreciate your studies are important to you, which may be the main reason you’ve chosen to attend City St George’s, University of London. However, we also believe that taking time away from your books to relax and remain healthy in body and mind is also essential.
Sport and physical activity at City St George’s in managed in partnership by the University’s Sport and Leisure Service and Students’ Union. Both organisations are committed to providing you with the best possible service.
Sport facilities
With the Clerkenwell, Tooting, and Moorgate campuses, your sports facilities are spread across London.
CitySport
CitySport provides health and fitness, wellbeing, and sporting activities to City St George’s students, staff, and alumni, as well as opportunities for our local community and sports clubs.
CitySport is also the home of the Wolfpack – the university’s club sport competitive programme.
The facility hosts a double sports hall, 5 studios, and a two-tier gym, providing the opportunity for a variety of team and individual sports, a wide range of fitness, yoga, and cycle classes, gym programmes and lots more, all available to book at a reduced price for students.
There are a range of student memberships available, however, our most popular membership is the full year, full access membership for only £100!
Robert Lowe Sports Centre
The Robert Lowe Sports Centre hosts activities for the sports clubs based in Tooting and fixtures for our medic teams.
Students can also book activities within the Robert Lowe Sports Centre by contacting the students’ Union.
Sports Pitches
Our student clubs train and play across a number of grass and artificial pitches, indoor and outdoor courts, and swimming pools close to each campus. The sports using these facilities we share the specific locations with members.
Our activities
Being active has numerous physical and mental health benefits. Whether you a seasoned gym-goer, or someone looking to start being active, City St George’s can help.
CitySport has sports activities (from badminton and pickleball to basketball and futsal), fitness classes (yoga and Pilates, Zumba, spin), and gym access and fast classes all available to you.
We make it as cheap as possible for you to be active with our heavily subsidised memberships, so sign up today or simply do pay as you go.
Be Active, Feel Well Programme
This is our programme for those that might be new to exercising, want additional support, or have been referred by other university Services.
Running continuously throughout the whole year, Be Active, Feel Well is a 12-week programme that includes 12 classes, 4 one-to-one sessions, and social badminton sessions.
The wellbeing drop in session provides additional support and the informational booklet providing additional tips on exercise, nutrition, and wellbeing.
By the end of the programme to help you will have gained essential knowledge, skills, and advice to help you make small changes with significant results! Incorporate healthy routines into your day-to-day life.

Hardship Fund
CitySport have a range of affordable memberships to enable students to be active. However, we understand that many students many be experiencing unexpected financial hardship. Eligible students can receive a free CitySport Student Membership to facilitate exercise.
Am I Eligible?
Students who have received support through the City St George’s Hardship Fund or the Students’ Union’s Alternative Financial Support in the current university year and haven’t applied for the support before are eligible to apply.
Please be aware that the Sport and Leisure staff will contact the Student Support Service and Students’ Union teams to confirm that you are in receipt of funding.
Applications will be rejected if students have not yet received the support. Therefore, please do not apply for the Sport and Leisure Hardship Fund until this is confirmed, even if your application is in process.

Social Sport
The GetActive programme – delivered by the Students’ Union – is a great way to meet new friends from other courses and to try out new activities in a fun and friendly environment.
You are not required to play competitive sport or enter try outs, just book on to one of our GetActive events by yourself, or with friends, and join in with everyone else there.
GetActive sessions will run across both Clerkenwell and Tooting campuses.

Club Sport
Whether you are a complete beginner to a sport, have represented your school/college or even played at county and national level, we have opportunities for you to participate, including getting involved in one of our many sports clubs here at City St George’s.
Many of our sports clubs have teams that compete in either British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues or the London Universities Sports Leagues (LUSL) and play against teams from other universities on either Wednesday afternoons or weekends.
Our medic teams, based in Tooting, also play in bespoke medic leagues.
Members enjoy the support from the Students’ Union as they organise all club training, coaching, and fixtures on behalf of the university.
Individuals and British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS)
Individuals can also enter BUCS competitions.
Please contact the Sport Development team, via sports@city.ac.uk, who will help register you for competitions.
Keep an eye our for our sports team mascots too.. the wolf and the dragon.
Performance Sport
Our Student-Athlete Support Programme is new for 2024-25, providing bespoke support for our high performing students.
The Student-Athlete Support Programme has been created to provide assistance for performance athletes who are studying at City St George’s alongside their sporting commitments.
Students selected for the programme will receive a package of support. Support services are based at the Clerkenwell campus, however, City St George’s students from any campus are eligible.
Eligibility
To be eligible for support through the Student-Athlete Support Programme you must:
- Be enrolled on a degree programme (60 credits; undergraduate or postgraduate) at the City St George’s, University of London
- Be of a national or international standard in a sport with a recognised National Governing Body
- Demonstrate your continued engagement and potential performance in future events
- Evidence your commitment to balancing sporting and academic demands
Award Levels
There are three award level on the programme:
Criteria and support will vary depending on the award level. Awards are limited and so eligibility is no guarantee of a particular level of – or any – support and all award decisions are at the discretion of the awarding committee.

Sport Events
Welcome Week has a number of events to introduce the incoming students and remind returners of how to be active at City St George’s.
The University and Union deliver a number of events throughout the year to engage or excite you in sport.

Sports in the Square
Monday 23 September 2024
This Students’ Union organised event is your first opportunity to meet the teams, have a chat about the opportunities available to you, along with getting the all important details on club trial dates and training sessions, the Get Active social sport programme, and gym memberships!
This event will take place come rain or shine.

Sports Welcome

A chance to visit CitySport, access all the facilities for free, and try out the sports clubs on offer, meeting the committees whilst you do.
There will be over 20 different sessions as well as a festival zone providing prizes and offers from City St George’s teams and external companies.

Each year, City St George’s takes part in the Sport England national #ThisGirlCan campaign, encouraging women to become more active in their daily lives.
This Girl Can is for everyone, whatever your experience. It’s a brilliant way to keep healthy and feel good. The benefits of exercise for mental health are well documented, so that’s another great reason to get active.
Varsity
March 2025 date to be confirmed
Varsity is the annual sports competition between City St George’s and Kingston University, and takes place in March each year at the end of the BUCS season. Usually approximately 20 matches go ahead across the two days, and we’ve won the past 7 events!
