Student Support Hub
For Tooting Campus Students
Principles of Service
The Student Support Hub and other student services at City St George’s operate under common principles of service. We welcome feedback from students, applicants and other users of our services.
- Accessible and visible - Our service should be recognised and trusted by students, be easily accessible and available at times that suit students’ needs.
- Professional and knowledgeable - Our centre team should have the skills and knowledge to identify students’ needs. They should have the skills and knowledge either to address those needs or to refer students to alternative sources of help or information.
- Effective connections - Links between our service and other student services should be clear from the user’s perspective. Students should be supported in their transition between services.
- Availability, quality and delivery - Our services should be targeted at the needs of students. Advice given should abide by the terms of the City St George's, University of London student charter, general regulations for students and programmes of study and other regulations and relevant health professional guidelines.
- Diversity - The range of our services should reflect the diversity of students’ needs.
- Impartial - Our services should support students to make their own informed decisions based on their needs and circumstances.
- Responsive - Our services should reflect students’ present needs and where possible anticipate future needs.
- Friendly and welcoming - Our centre team should engage with students in an open and courteous manner and actively encourage students to make full use of our services.
- Enabling - Our services should support students by enabling them to access the learning, financial and career opportunities available to them.
- Awareness - Students should be aware of our services that are relevant to them, and have well informed expectations of those services.
Standard Letters and Forms
Students are often required to confirm their status in order to access services or receive discounts. The Student Support Hub (previously Student Life Centre) can produce or adapt a range of documents to provide the evidence you need for most activities. Standard letters can often be produced while you wait if you visit the Hub in person.
Keep in mind
- You need to bring your SGUL ID card in order to collect a letter.
- Students can nominate someone else to collect letters on their behalf, but you’ll need to do this via email or in writing before it can be collected.
- We can only accept letter requests from City St George’s email addresses.
- Transcript requests are handled by your programme administration with the exception of MBBS and BSc Biomedical Science transcripts which are currently handled by studentsystems@sgul.ac.uk.

Even if we’re not able to complete it for you, we’ll be able to refer you on to the most appropriate member of staff.
ID Cards
City St George's, University of London (Tooting) ID cards are issued to all new students, usually within their first week. These cards serve as your library card and allow swipe access to computer rooms, labs and other facilities.
You must wear your identity card at all times on City St George’s (Tooting) and hospital premises and your presence on site may be challenged if it is not clearly visible.
City St George’s (Tooting) is attached to an NHS Trust, and there are a large number of potentially vulnerable people here on the site. We all have to do our best to maintain physical security.
You’ll be asked to present your ID card when collecting documents or accessing some services at the Student Support Hub or Academic Services. The library also makes a £1.00 per day charge for using their services without it.
Lost, damaged or stolen cards
Please report loss or damage to your ID card to the main university reception as soon as possible, so that a replacement can be arranged. A charge of £5.00 is levied for replacement of lost cards. Stolen cards (if you have a crime reference number), damaged and expiring cards will usually be replaced free of charge.
Lockers
The Student Support Hub (previously Student Life Centre) maintains a number of lockers for students to use. Lockers are issued to incoming students during the induction period.
Single Use Lockers
We have approximately 600 ‘gym style’ lockers that you can use when you are on site if you have not been assigned a locker. These are for students who have DR, Labs or Clinical Skills and are located close to these areas. To use these lockers, you will need to bring in a padlock to secure the locker. We do not provide padlocks.
Please note, these lockers are not to be used as assigned lockers or overnight, padlocks will be cut, and items removed on a frequent basis.
Placement Lockers
For students who are on placement in St George’s Hospital and have not been assigned a locker, you can choose to use an assigned locker for the duration of your placement period only.
You will be required to pay a cost of £16 to sign out a locker key, if the key is not returned within 7 days of your placement end date, your deposit will not be returned.
How do I get a locker?

Merging City and St George’s Resources
As we bring together resources for City (Clerkenwell) and St George’s (Tooting) students, some content may be specific to one campus and not the other. For the most relevant information, try using specific keywords or exploring content related to your department. If you need help, our support teams are available to guide you.
Clerkenwell students can contact campus.news@citystgeorges.ac.uk
Tooting students can contact studentlifecentre@sgul.ac.uk.
