February marks the start of LGBTQ+ History Month, an annual celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, non-binary and queer history. The month acknowledges LGBTQ+ peoples’ struggle for civil rights, celebrates their achievements, and looks ahead to a positive future.
The theme for 2024 is #UnderTheScope and celebrates LGBTQ+ peoples’ contributions to the field of medicine and healthcare, both in the past and present.
Celebrating at City
City is holding a number of events to celebrate the month, including exploring the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ people in healthcare settings, a talk from inspirational filmmaker Veronica McKenzie and a lecture on the impact of the Civil Partnership and Gender Recognition Acts, twenty years on since they were established.
