From Monday 12 June, there will be scaffold constructed around the Library and University Building.
Much needed work will begin to replace windows on the upper floors of the main Library at Northampton Square.
To do this safely, a large scaffold will be constructed around University Building. This construction will commence from the week beginning 12 June and continue for around 4 weeks. Contractors have been asked to use hand tools only between 10:00-12:00 and 14:00-16:00, to minimise disruption from the noise of scaffold bolts being tightened. The contractors will also sequence their work to limit the impact of noise on events taking place in the Pavilion and Northampton Suites, and work will not take place during the Open Day.
Following the scaffolding, new windows will be installed from Monday 17 July. This is expected to take around 12 weeks, following which scaffolding will be removed. All work should be complete by October 2023. Normal access to University Building will be maintained throughout the work.
The works forms part of a number of important capital works programmes that will be delivered across City’s estate over the Summer.
No access to University Building on Saturday 17 June
On Saturday 17 June, there will be no access to University Building between 8am and 4pm and to the main Library all day. This is to allow the safe removal of surplus telecommunications equipment on the roof of the building, which requires a crane lift.
For those planning to visit Northampton Square on that day, facilities will remain open in buildings connected to University Building, such as the PC labs in Drysdale and Tait Buildings. Please use the street level entrances to these buildings, respectively via Spencer Street and Goswell Road. Library facilities will also be available at The City Law School Building.
Out of hours access permissions for Northampton Square building, excluding University Building, are unaffected.
